The Arcane Protectors stemmed from a long line of ancient blood dedicated to protecting the Arcanists. They were strong, sophisticated warriors who started training in martial arts and various other forms of ancient warfare when they were young. This training became a trend, the members starting out their children at a young age and teaching them to fight against the Shadowkind that haunted the Material Realm. It is a little known fact that the originating member of the Order was a mortal man married to an Abjurer. The Order had several hidden bases all over the globe, though the main one was located somewhere deep within the northwest territories of Canada; it was dubbed the Enclave.
Because they didn’t have magic running through their veins, they relied on battle tactics to fight against the Shadow Realm beings. Magical artifacts that stemmed from the Arcane families or the Shadow Realm itself, found themselves in the hands of many Protectors hands. The Order held a graduation ceremony, where training members became full-fledged Order members and received a magical artifact. Due to the nature of guns being essentially useless against the Shadowkind, many Order members do not bother with unnecessary weapons.
However, many members didn’t see being part of the Order as their style. A few branched out, perhaps creating lesser factions that perished or quit the lifestyle altogether. Some parents didn’t want to raise their kids in the world they had been born into, and thus broke away from the Order. Because of this, a few generations of Protectors were skipped, until the knowledge of the Order was foreign to them. However, fate had a way of bringing them all back together. Taylor Sullivan, whose parents knew nothing of the Order, was found after her parents were slaughtered. Her great-grandmother’s grandparents were members of the Order who broke away to raise their kids in a separate lifestyle than the one they had been born into.
Sebastian Mosely’s father was a member of the Order. He wanted to raise his child in the ways he had been brought into, though his wife ultimately divorced him because of it. Sebastian was raised to his father’s liking, though left the Order’s lifestyle once his mother gained custody of him in his teens. Robert Mandrake was an individual who had not been born into Order blood, though the journey he was on and the events that he had been through with the Shadowkind gave him an invitation to join. Declining, he hunted on his own.
As of 2008, only a handful of Arcane Protectors bore the mark of their ancestors. Slowly, the Order began to die due to the increased forces of the Shadowkind. They last remaining members gathered together to protect the Arcanists in the wars, though many more were eradicated during the fights. As of 2010, only two members with Order blood have survived: Taylor Sullivan and Sebastian Mosely. Both bear the last marks of the Order ever to be on the bodies of ancient blood.
The Marking[]
Each Order member, upon initiation, is granted the same symbol as a tattooed mark on his or her body. It serves as a prestigious marking that separates them from the new faction of hunters that emerge from the war. The placing of the tattoo is usually on the right wrist, just underneath the palm, though it has also been located elsewhere.
