A Doppelgänger's true form

Origins[]

Doppelgängers are rumored to be the ghostly double of a living person. The term refers to any double of a person, most commonly in reference to an “evil twin”. These Shadowkind frequently make their way into the Material Realm, taking on the form of the first person they come into contact with. Many humans believe that seeing their double is a sign of bad luck, or an approaching illness. In the Shadow Realm, they appear as their true selves, and stick to marshy areas to make their homes.

The doppelgänger race took neither side when the Horde took over their realm. However, they are willing to work with the Kreelocks towards an ultimate goal. They are not frequently seen in the Material Realm, as not many escape them. They like to torment the people who they steal their identities from, often murdering them. Doppelgängers feed off of the flesh of deceased creatures, and stalk their victims. Often, doppelgängers take the skin of their victims as trophies for their kills.

Physiology[]

They shift their forms into those of human others, but their natural forms are thin and slender, with blue tinted skin and dark blotches etched into their flesh. They are often pale and hairless, though the female generally have long black hair that covers their emaciated features. Deep, dark circles surround thin yellow eyes with the bones underneath jutting outwards. They have sharp, gaping teeth that fill a crimson stained mouth, and fingernails that aren’t missing are always dark yellow and broken.

As soon as they cross over into our realm, they take the form of the first being they see. Because of this, their true form stays hidden until they’re out on the hunt and ready for the kill. They are known for the hint of sulfur that can be smelt in their presence.

Powers[]

Enhanced Speed[]

Doppelgängers have an enhanced speed ability that allows them to move at rapid rates that normal humans are not able to do. They move in quick, splice-like movements that are hard to keep track with. This ability also allows them to quickly scale the sides of buildings, as if they were spider creatures.

Shapeshift[]

Doppelgängers possess the ability to take on the appearance and access the thoughts of the person they are mimicking. When they chance from one form to another, they literally shed the skin, teeth, and nails of their previous form. The shifting process is fast, and is a perfect duplicate of whatever human they are trying to portray.

Weaknesses[]

Salt[]

Salt rapidly eats away at their flesh, exposing them in their true form. The salt corrodes their skin and laps at it angrily, until nothing but pure bone is left. Using this substance against a doppelgänger can piss it off greatly.

Mirrors[]

A doppelgänger does not cast the reflection of the person it is portraying. Instead, they give off their true form’s reflection. The sight of their self haunts them, as if the very sight tortures them.

Trivia[]

  • A doppelgänger took the form of Remy Bontecou in season one, and remained with the Arcane families until it brought about the first war.
